An everyday organic sesame oil
Sesame oil is the workhorse seasoning of a Korean kitchen, the toasted note stirred into rice, tossed through namul, and mixed into marinades. Not every bottle has to be a special-occasion oil, and this is the one to reach for daily: Chung-O's organic everyday grade, made from organic sesame grown in India and pressed for a clean, reliable, nutty flavor.
Sprouted, triple-washed, single-pressed
Using Chung-O's patented sprouting method, the whole seeds are germinated under controlled temperature and moisture, washed three times, and slow-roasted at low heat before a single press the traditional way. Roasting gently keeps the flavor clean and rounded, with none of the scorched bitterness high heat can bring, and it also keeps the oil tested clear of benzopyrene, a compound that can form when seeds are roasted too hot. It stays unrefined and organic, an easy pour for the cooking you do every day.
How to use it
It's a finishing oil at heart. Drizzle it over bibimbap, namul, soups, or steamed vegetables; whisk it into a dressing; or use it to season just about anything that wants a nutty lift. Keep it to raw or low-heat uses rather than high-heat frying, and a small amount will carry the flavor a long way.
Founded in 1995, Chung-O is one of Korea's leading makers of organic and eco-friendly foods, built on a simple aim: keep clean ingredients close to nature and turn them into safe food for people and the land. It holds more organic-processed-food certifications than any other company in Korea, across more than two hundred products, and makes them across seven dedicated facilities under HACCP and organic-processing certification. Its specialty is sprouted seeds and grains: using a patented germination method, Chung-O washes each seed several times and sprouts it, then roasts it slowly at a low temperature for a deep, clean, nutty character with no burnt edge. For its sesame and perilla oils, the roasted seeds are pressed a single time in the traditional way.
